Estefan Al Douaihy, the son of Michael and Miriam Al Douaihy
was born in Ehden on August 30, 1630. His father died when
he was three years old and was brouth up by his mother who
taught him the values of Christianity and the importance to
serve God. She sent him to the village school to learn the
fundamentals of the Maronite faith. He was a bright young
student who mastered both the Arabic and the Syriac languages
at an early age. |

Youssef Karam became the acknowledged leader of the district,
and in time became one of the most powerful personalities
in Lebanese Politics. And although politically and militarily
very powerful, he remained ever loyal to his faith and church.
Karam's loyalty to the Church and Bkerke, the seat of the
Maronite Patriarch, never waivered, and this loyalty was to
have far reaching implications in future years. |

Savant and Historian Jawad Boulos Makary |

Jawad Boulos is one of the most distinguished Lebanese personalities
in the twentieth century. He was well known for his exceptional
manners and wide knowledge, and brought back to Ehden its
creativity. He passed away shortly after publishing his latest
book "The great changes in the history of the East since Islam".

Excellency Suleiman Bey Frangieh President of the Republic of Lebanon |

Suleiman Frangieh was born in Ehden, Lebanon on the 15th June
1910, and the second eldest son of Kabalan Suleiman Frangieh
and Lamia Raffoul from Ejbah. He was educated at De La Safle
College, Tripoh, St. Joseph College, Zgharta, Antoura College
in Kisrwan.
In 1969, Suleiman campaigned for the Presidency on a platform
of Lebanese sovereignty and independence. He opposed the presence
of all armed militias in Lebanon, and proposed a new Lebanese
National Government with the motto "My Country is always
right'. He encouraged Lebanese youth to take an interest in
Lebanese politics. He also favored conscription, as a means
of attaining a stronger Lebanon. |

Excellency Rene Bey Mouawad President of the Republic of Lebanon |
 |
 |
Rene Bey Mouawad was born in Zgharta, Lebanon in 1925. His
father, Anis Bey Mouawad was the mayor of the local council,
a highly respected person who was well known for his services
to the Zgharta community. Rene's mother was Evelyn Shalhoub,
also from Zgharta. |
